It was a travelling day today. First we drove north to the hillside village of Langada and shared tea/coffee in the old cafenion with three friends. Down the steps we visited Eleni & Vangelis at Amorgiana Botana. They grow herbs and harvest them from the hills of the island. There was also a supply of oils that have been pressed from the herbs to provide medicinal properties.
The next stop was the small hillside village of Tholaria, across from Langada. Kali Kardia (Good Heart) is our favourite place to share wine and good homemade food prepared by Kiria Plito.
Her kefthedes (meatballs) are the best I have ever tasted...a mixture of pork, beef and island herbs!!
Stomachs full and aching we headed back down to the port of Aegiali to look in the shops and have another coffee visit. John napped in the car while the girls and I did a walking tour to discover that the shops were closed. Enroute we found a gorgeous blue-eyed cat.
He looked very well fed!
After our coffee break it was finally time to drive to Asfondilitis where we were meeting another group of five people for dinner at the "tiny taverna in the middle of nowhere". Kiria Sofia had prepared baked chickpeas, oven roasted potatoes, horta and salad for our group. The wind was howling and it was too cold to eat outside so we crammed tables & chairs into her kitchen.
Kalliroi fighting the wind at Asfondilitis.
Another delicious group meal!!
Three more from our group will leave the island in the morning, to be replaced with Junior and Emma who are arriving from England. I hope that they bring some warm weather!!
