On this morning of my 75th birthday I had a job interview! If hired...I would join a volunteer group that is tasked with sorting clothing donations for Penny Pincher Thrift store in Langley. The store is a major fund raiser for the Langley Hospital Auxiliary with all of the proceeds going to support the hospital. With no paid staff...volunteers perform all of the necessary functions to keep this non-profit organization going.
Following the interview I walked down the street to the RCMP offices to request a mandatory Criminal Check. While I was filling out the forms my phone rang. It was our son Adrian calling to wish me a Happy Birthday. "You'll never guess where I am!" I told him. "In the Langley RCMP detachment office!" After a few seconds of silence he replied with "What have you done Mum?"
So, starting next week...I will be "working" a four hour shift on Tuesday afternoons in the clothing department of the store. They are allowing me a slow start with sorting, hanging, discarding huge bags of donated clothing. It will be fun to meet other community volunteers!
When I returned home there was a young man waiting outside the lobby doors with a gorgeous floral arrangement. When I asked who he was looking for...he replied "Lin Maxwell"! WOW!!! What great timing!
This beautiful arrangement of flowers was sent
from our daughter Heather, her husband Chris and our grandson August!
Thank you so much!!...
...and thank you to everyone who has sent birthday wishes!!
