Never a dull moment! Just before 9:00pm last night there was a huge crash! Running downstairs I discovered that a security company truck had slid down the road, smashing into our front gates. Apparently the motor had died and brakes failed leaving the security guard with no control over the vehicle. The new wrought iron gates were bent, the lock sprung, plant pots broken, outdoor lights shattered.
From that position, on this very steep road, he attached a long chain to the undercarriage of the truck and started to (very slowly) winch the truck up the hill. At some point the truck engine cooperated and by the time everyone left after midnight, the truck followed behind the tow truck down the hill with the original driver behind the wheel!
The front gates were chained and locked until they can be repaired. Damage to be assessed. Only access now is through the garage.
I don't wanna be on the receiving end of that crash. This just tells you that accidents like this affect everyone, including those from outside the car, which means checking up on the car has to be on everyone's agenda. Also, steep hills and brakes failing is the absolute worst thing that can happen, so it's fortunate that you guys only had a messed-up gate to deal with. Perhaps lodging a heavy block or two behind the wheels to support the breaks can help avoid this situation from happening again.

Oh my! Reckless driving and using vehicles without checking its machine’s condition really caused so many distractions and disturbances to the whole community. They should be responsible for that incident. Everyone must be reminded to check their engines before using it to avoid accidents. Thanks for sharing that! Take care!

Yikes! Accidents like that accident can really be chilling to the spine. Reckless driving results to many damages and destructions. We should really be extra careful when driving, because we are not the only ones who will be affected when an accident occurs. In any way, thanks for sharing that, Lin! All the best to you!
