A great weekend!

What a great weekend!
August and his parents visited to help us
with offloading "stuff" from the condo.

On Sunday we joined John, Doug and Shelly for lunch and a performance of "Shakespeare in Hollywood" at the Metro Theatre. Heather, Chris and August were in the audience too... so August saw his Uncle Adrian on stage for the first time. It was a hilarious production, very entertaining!

Great helpers!

We had a wonderful and supportive visit this weekend from Vancouver Island. Heather, Chris and Augie helped to load a u-haul van with various items from the condo. John and Chris drove to the Surrey Transfer station and deposited the load before returning to enjoy a pre-dinner toast of high quality scotch...a reward for their hard work. The stove cooperated and yielded a delicious roast chicken with stuffing, potatoes, peas and carrots topped with tasty gravy!

We also discovered one more painting in the same theme as the other five... a slightly different size.

We have set tomorrow as our official "move-in" date.

Transition almost...

The chairs arrived today along with a young woman from Telus who managed,
after several hours, to hook us up to the internet.

We have almost transitioned from my sister's home to our new home!

Chairs on Friday the 13th

On this rainy day we decided to visit more furniture outlets in Langley. Both of our horoscopes, on this Friday the 13th, advised us against any major purchases...so...we were only looking! The first stop was Leon's where I had seen an orange retro style couch that I liked. We also found a red pleather recliner that was very comfortable. How could we marry these two items with the eggplant wall in our dining room? Hmmmh!

Further down the road we stopped at Evolution where all of their furniture is custom made...except for the amazing selection of recliners that are imported from Norway...very stylish and not cheap. A turquoise sofa caught my eye...retro styling again and longer than most sofas we have seen. Hmmmh!

I finally managed to convince John to visit the Lazy Boy store. He was under the false impression that they only made boring, brown recliners! They actually have some interesting designs. We decided to ignore our horoscope advice...and could not resist buying two of their chairs.

They are comfortable and totally different to anything we had seen in any of the hundred stores that we have visited so far...and...they are manufactured by Lazy Boy! It was an easy decision!

New lock..old spices..five paintings

We are still working our way through boxes. Today we had the lock changed on our door and discovered a box of spices...some have been around for 30 years...like Cream of Tartar!! Who uses that and what is it?!

We also discovered a series of five paintings that I had totally forgotten about! They were painted just before we sold the house and were packed away...forgotten...and rediscovered today!

Who knows what we'll discover tomorrow?!

TOO MUCH STUFF!

Well, everything arrived and has been transferred into our condo by Mur of Mur's Moving in Salmon Arm. John has known him for years so it was great to catch up on his life and to watch how he, single handedly and efficiently, moved everything out of a huge semi trailer and into our small space! Bravo to Mur!!

Of course we have more than we remembered...and more than we need. After living out of two suitcases and three drawers in my sister's house...we are overwhelmed. It might take us months to adjust! The bits and pieces of furniture are all relics from our past lives and the past lives of parents.
Will we be able to part with them...and modernise? ...unlikely!

We spent Wednesday afternoon and Thursday unpacking hidden treasures, discovering gifts and listening to music that had been hiding for 2 1/2 years. Last night, exhausted and hungry, we ordered a pizza and drank a scotch toast to our new home. By 8:30pm we were in the new bed, ready to test the mattress, the pillows and our ability to fall asleep in less than 5 minutes!

The mattress passed the test...the pillows did not...collapsing under the weight of our heads and providing no neck support. As a result our sleep was sporadic, interrupted by visits to the loo and wanders through the semi-empty condo. At 7:00am we hopped into the car and drove to Bellingham with a mission of filling the gas tank (half the price of Langley) and finding new pillows. We will do another pillow testing tonight!

Handyman?...and Scaryman

Well, we finally succeeded with hanging draperies in the bedroom and mounting bedside lamps. Whew! Each "handyman" job comes with its own entertainment value...and all of the required tools come from our brother-in-law's endless supply of tools...and the small ladder...transported to the condo on multiple trips as we discovered the need for what we didn't have!

Last night Adrian joined us for Easter dinner at our niece's home. He is currently rehearsing for a new role at the Metro Theatre in a production of "Shakespeare in Hollywood".

Is this the character that he will portray?
