A wedding

This past weekend we attended my sister's wedding
at a small Mennonite Church in Mission.

The bride was gorgeous...
the groom was ecstatic.
January 25th was a special day for them
and we were happy to join in their celebration!

Volunteer time

Two afternoons of each week I volunteer my time at Penny Pincher Thrift store which is a part of Langley Hospital Auxiliary. Everyone in the auxiliary is a volunteer and all proceeds go go assist with the hospital's needs. My job is to sort through donated clothing. The bags of clothing are sorted into those that are suitable to sell in the store, others are sold by the pound to Can Am and some other articles which are 100% cotton (but soiled) are also sold by the bag or pound.

These bins are usually overflowing with large bags of donated clothing.
Local merchants often donate unsold items...a great (brand new) buy for our patrons!

The clothing is sorted, hung and tagged in the back before being placed in the store.

On the clothing side of Penny Pincher we have a selection of everything from clothing, hats, underwear, swimwear, shoes, gloves, ties for men, women and children.

Once a week Can Am sends a truck to take away this room full of discarded clothing
that we have identified as soiled, torn or just plain worn out.

My volunteer time is spent looking through other people's castoffs...
...finding treasures for others who shop in this lovely Langley City store.

Snow and wind

Wind chill is not a common term used in the Greater Vancouver area but we have been experiencing some extremely cold (with wind chill) days this week. Along with the snow we are also experiencing wind warnings (up to 100km/hour), ferry cancellations and power outages.

The snow was relentless last night...

...resulting in about 6" of white stuff on our balcony railing.

This afternoon the snow is being blown horizontally across the landscape!

Fortunately we are warm and cozy in our condo with good books and good food!

HAPPY 2020!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The weather was so glorious today after yesterday's downpour
that we managed to squeeze in three walks.
Inhaling the clean air, we walked over to Red Velvet Cafe
for a delicious breakfast of Eggs Benedict.
Later we walked around a local park and met Jack.

Jack is a standard poodle who recently competed
for the title of "Most Gorgeous" guy.
He didn't seem to think that his style was outlandish at all!

The third walk required shedding jackets
and feeling the warmth of about 14 degrees
on the first day of 2020!
