Opus Outdoor Painting challenge

On Sunday my sister and I participated in the Opus Outdoor Painting challenge
...along with about 250 others....all ages from 5 - 85 years!

We gathered at Portage Park in Langley City around 10:00am
to collect our canvas boards and select a painting site.
Opus offered free t-shirts to participants
along with cookies, crackers, oranges and bottled water.
By 4:00pm our paintings were on display
and we were all assembled for the draw prizes.
For the second year I was not one of the fortunate recipients!

Artwork

I have had requests to see my artwork
and since I never seem to find the time
to sit down and create a webpage...
...here are some recent paintings.

Some of these have sold and are living in new homes.

Penny Pincher volunteer

Well...I made it through my first four hour shift
at Penny Pincher Thrift store.

The Thrift store is a major fund raising branch
of the Langley Hospital Auxiliary.
It is amazing how much clothing is sorted
by volunteers like myself!

75th birthday

On this morning of my 75th birthday I had a job interview! If hired...I would join a volunteer group that is tasked with sorting clothing donations for Penny Pincher Thrift store in Langley. The store is a major fund raiser for the Langley Hospital Auxiliary with all of the proceeds going to support the hospital. With no paid staff...volunteers perform all of the necessary functions to keep this non-profit organization going.

Following the interview I walked down the street to the RCMP offices to request a mandatory Criminal Check. While I was filling out the forms my phone rang. It was our son Adrian calling to wish me a Happy Birthday. "You'll never guess where I am!" I told him. "In the Langley RCMP detachment office!" After a few seconds of silence he replied with "What have you done Mum?"

So, starting next week...I will be "working" a four hour shift on Tuesday afternoons in the clothing department of the store. They are allowing me a slow start with sorting, hanging, discarding huge bags of donated clothing. It will be fun to meet other community volunteers!

When I returned home there was a young man waiting outside the lobby doors with a gorgeous floral arrangement. When I asked who he was looking for...he replied "Lin Maxwell"! WOW!!! What great timing!

This beautiful arrangement of flowers was sent
from our daughter Heather, her husband Chris and our grandson August!
Thank you so much!!...

...and thank you to everyone who has sent birthday wishes!!

Paper dresses

While in Vancouver for a Doctor's appointment we had an opportunity
for a short walk through Oakridge Shopping Centre.

In the mall we were impressed by an exhibition of paper dresses...
...designed and created by fashion design students.

Morning walk in Cloverdale

We enjoyed a lovely walk along the quiet streets
of downtown Cloverdale this morning.
An episode of "Motherland" is being filmed
in Cloverdale later this week.

Seems like a strange mix of products?

Storefront - dressed up for filming?

Have to try a martini and jazz night here!

Our visit to Vancouver Island

We just returned from Vancouver Island after an entire week without our iPads
and internet connection! We loved the days with family time and great books.

A magnificent beard!
