Women's Discussion Group

It was a perfect evening for a gathering of good friends around a bowl of delicious, homemade sangria!
Our group of eight women has been meeting twice a year since 2004 to share food, wine and discussion.

The food was amazing(as usual) with offerings of spinach quiche, eggplant ragout with camembert, grilled chicken skewers, artichoke & feta pizza, philo with cheese swirls. Dessert was a lemon cheesecake to celebrate our combined birthdays (405) for 2011.

Following a short guessing game(and much laughter at attempts to either hum a tune or create objects from play-doh) about women in song, literature and history we moved into the discussion. The topic was women in the world of competitive surfing, prostitution and politics!! It was surprising to learn that women earn less prize money in all sports while being encouraged(forced) to wear skimpier clothing each year. ...golf, tennis, beach volleyball. The only reason that competitive surfing on the west coast of BC doesn't require women to wear bikinis is because of the chilly water temperatures. Discussing the pros and cons of whether to legalize prostitution left some of us undecided. Either way, it reeks of exploitation and demeans the prostitute. Apparently 70% of married men use prostitutes because their wives will not engage in oral sex! In the field of politics no one could think of a single woman in the political arena who has been unseated as a result of sexual misconduct. What does that say??

The moon was shining over the lake when we climbed into our vehicles for the drive home. It was another great evening of eating, talking, laughing and sharing opinions.

  1. Oh Lin, how well you capture our wonderful evening together. I can't believe we've been meeting since 2004, but makes sense... Clem would likely not be more than a twinkle for the love and encouragement you all gave me 5 years and some ago.
