Mata's challenges

Mata has faced some challenges since the guys left on their holidays. First there was the dishwasher that had been sent for repairs and needed to be picked up at the port. How?? Fortunately a friend was able to arrange for the delivery. Then there was the constant beeping that needed to be located. After all three of us spent some time listening, it was determined that it came from the sanitary dispenser that fed into the toilet! What to do? A call to Theo and the problem was solved. Then the coffee maker decided to spring a leak dispersing water all over the floor in the bar. Again, what to do? Turn off the water supply and call Theo who gave her the name of a repairman. He came the same day and made a temporary adjustment so that I could have my latte!

Around the same time Mata noticed that Theo's car was leaking some fluid. What to do? She called Theo and he gave her the name of the auto repair guy who still hasn't returned her call...probably away from the island right now.

Then the ice machine decided to grind to a halt in the cellar last night before everyone was due to arrive for dinner. Buckets of water had to be removed in order to avoid a major flood.

Fortunately Armelle had arrived early for dinner and was able to help with the process of removing water. I was busy cooking. There will probably be a phone call to Theo again today!

In the midst of all these events there is a guy who likes to visit the bar around 11:30pm and stay until around 4:00am which results in very little sleep for our barmaid!!

Today she will face the challenge of getting four of the bar cats to the vet for neutering!! What a girl!
I hope the guys realize how lucky they are to have this wonderful person looking after their business!

Soul food!

I enjoyed my first pedicure today in Aegiali while Elpida played with my feet and painted my toenails a shocking brown/burgundy colour. I was only slightly ticklish.

Tonight we shared a wonderful meal with 10 others from Greece, Holland, France and Germany. Mata made a delicious veggie/cheese pie. Stephanos brought homemade humous, wood fire smoked aubergine salad and grilled peppers. Elena made a salad with pomegranate, avocado, orange and lettuce. My contribution was Amaretto chicken, rice and stir fried ginger broccoli.

Irini, Mata & Elena help in the kitchen

It was one of the best meals we have shared. Armelle & Thomas are leaving for France in the morning. We will leave on Monday morning. Liz will head back to Holland on Thursday and the others will spend the winter here.

After dinner we gathered outside to watch an amazing light show as the skies finally collided
after strong winds all day. Lightning and thunder all around us!!

We raced home before the pathway became a river of rain water!!

Photo shoot

Today I accompanied Liz and Theodosia on a photo shoot. Liz is a clothing designer from Amsterdam and she wanted Theodosia to model her newest garments. We walked, climbed and clambered over rocks to Meltesi Beach where we hoped to be out of the wind.

A very special person!

Strombous

Yesterday we made a trip to the abandoned village of Strombous at the north end of the island. Several ex-pats have rebuilt homes there.

We visited a friend on the balcony of one rebuilt home.

The hike back to Langada seemed shorter and less treacherous than the hike in to Strombous.
It has been years since John attempted this route! Bravo!!

A Jenga farewell

Yesterday was a gorgeous day...the first really warm day in quite a while so I thought about a swim at Agia Anna...maybe my last. By the time I got to the beach, after helping Suvi to "cast-off" her knitting project, the sun was still on the water but not on the beach. I couldn't make myself think about exiting the sea into the shade of the hillside...so...no swim.

In the early evening we joined Mata at Prekas Cafenion in Katapola. Sitting at the old tables we imitated the old men who gather to drink raki and play cards. Our game of choice was Saskatchewan Rummy.

Later we gathered at Jazzmin for Suvi's farewell dinner and a rousing game of Jenga!!

Mata was worried about a topple!

Oops!...I was the one who finally made it fall!

Difficult to say goodbye even though Elena will join Suvi in India soon.

Our farewell frangelica toast!
Suvi will always hold a special place in our hearts.
